Bed bugs in the library

Bedbugs are very minute and can be hidden anywhere and since it becomes hard to detect at the early stage of infestation. They hide in the cracks and the crevices. There is the urban myth about bedbugs that they cannot occur in plastic and metal equipment and there is no design, furnishing or material that is resistant to bedbugs. Bedbugs are present on any surface that contains cracks and crevices can provide a harbor for them and making it difficult to detect.

When bedbugs invade libraries and other locations or place where people do not sleep, the nocturnal bedbugs look to feed on people rather than feeding them at the night time. Since we all know that a pair of bedbugs can multiply in a short period of time with the large infestation.

There are people entering the libraries on a daily basis where the bedbugs get the opportunities to enter the library and to eat as well as to migrate. The fact that people prefer coming to the library because of the silence and space they get for a long period of time but in the library, the reading tables provide these wingless insects significant opportunities to feed.

The bedbugs carry the greatest risk as the books are returned to the library from all sorts of residences and situations, and therefore the bedbugs can infest the building itself, moving from books to the furniture.

Let us have a look at the evidence,

SC University closes library due to bed bugs, officials say

A South Carolina university has shut down the library on campus due to a report of bed bugs.

Winthrop University closed the Dacus Library at 6 p.m. Wednesday after bed bugs were identified on several pieces of furniture, school officials said.

The university sent an email to students notifying them of the library closure and the treatment taking place.

Bed Bugs Complaint Closes Milpitas Library

MILPITAS, CA — The library will remain closed for at least another day upon receiving a report last week from a patron about possible bed bugs in the Santa Clara County facility.

The library told its Facebook readers it ordered an inspection and received information that “localized activity” was detected. This means bed bugs were discovered.

As a precaution, the library will remain closed until the facility has been treated and the issue eliminated.

Libraries need to develop plans in advance of any infestation.

Rats carry disease that endangers humans!

There are more than 35 diseases carried by rodents like rats and mice. It is very important that one must protect themselves from the infection or contamination while dealing with mice or rat infestation.

Diseases associated with rodents like rats and mice can be transmitted in a wide variety of ways as follows:

  • Rat or mouse bites
  • Rats or mouse scratches
  • Rat or mouse urine or feces
  • Contact with rat or mouse saliva
  • Exposure to their hair, dander, droppings or other allergens

Diseases which are Directly Transmitted by Rats:

  • Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome: This is a viral disease that is transmitted by the rat. This disease is spread in many ways: inhaling dust which includes rat urine or droppings, direct contact with their feces or urine, and due to their bite.
  • Leptospirosis: This is a bacterial disease that can be transmitted by coming into contact with infected water by swimming etc., or by the contaminated drinking water. A person may be at increased risk of Leptospirosis infections if they are in contact with animals.
  • Rat-bite Fever: This disease may be transmitted through a rat bite, scratch or even contact with a dead rat.
  • Salmonellosis: This disease can occur by consuming food or water that is contaminated by rat feces bacteria.

Diseases which are Indirectly Transmitted by Rats:

  • Plague: This disease is carried by rats and it is transmitted by fleas in the process where they enjoy blood meal.
  • Colorado Tick Fever: This is a viral disease that is transmitted by the bite of a tick that has taken blood from a rat.

The universal early symptoms of these diseases include fatigue, fever and muscle aches in the thighs, hips, back and sometimes shoulders.

All the patients with these diseases experience symptoms like headaches, dizziness, chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. As the virus turns deadly, the fluid fills the lungs, causing coughing and shortness of breath where a person may even die.

Scientists believe that people can get the virus if they touch something which is contaminated with the rats infected urine, droppings or saliva, and then touch their nose or mouth.

Since these viruses can occur during any month and the risk of exposure is increased in all seasons.

Let us have a look at some of the evidence,

Santa Cruz Co. issues Hantavirus warning

Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, more frequently known as HPS, is caused by a virus found in urine, droppings or saliva from wild rodents such as deer mice.

People typically contract the infection when entering or cleaning buildings and other enclosed places where mice are present. Small particles of urine or droppings get stirred up into the air and inhaled, leading to the infection.

The rapidly progressing symptoms include fever, headache and muscle aches followed by severe difficulty breathing and sometimes death. Following the identification of the syndrome in 1993, there have been more than 70 confirmed cases in California, roughly 30 percent of which turned fatal.

Mice-borne Hantavirus kills young mom; here’s what you need to know

A 27-year-old New Mexico mother has died after spending more than two months in ICU fighting a rare pulmonary disease caused by the mouse-borne hantavirus.

How Kiley Lane became exposed to the virus is a mystery.

Health officials in several states have issued cautions in recent weeks as people begin spring cleaning, which can increase the risk of exposure.

The hantavirus is spread through exposure to infected rodent droppings, typically from deer mice, which are found across the country and are responsible for most cases of infection in the United States and Canada.

It is rare. As of January 2017, 728 cases of hantavirus infection in 36 states have been reported, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Thirty-six percent of the reported cases resulted in death.

Impact of Rats on Rice Production

Rats are the major agricultural pest across Asia. Rats are found in the irrigated rice crops, all seasons are favorable for rat’s reproduction as well as crop damage. Easy availability of food, water, shelter, and safety are the factors which provide them with optimum breeding conditions.

The rice field rats feed at night with the highest activity and at day time they are found among vegetation, maturing fields etc. The rice field rats pull the transplanted plants and they also chop down the young seedlings. At the heading stage when the panicles are visible, the rats feed on them and during ripening stage; they feed on developing rice grains.

Rat damage in the crops can be observed by the following symptoms:

  • Missing germinating seeds
  • Damaged young seedlings
  • Missing of plants
  • Irregular cuttings of stem
  • Chewed ripening grains
  •  Grain maturity delay
  • Missing of  grains
  • Missing of  panicles

In the traditional farming system, the rats generally cause chronic losses to production in the order of 5-10% per annum. Today it is not unusual for the farmers with smallholder rice farm to report chronic yield losses of 25-30% per annum. In many areas, farmers refuse from planting the second rice crop because of the damage done by rats.

In Asia, there is 5% of rice production loss which amounts to approximately 30 million; enough to feed about 200 million people each year. Post-harvest and pre-harvest losses are probably similar; from this it is clear that rats play an important role in influencing food security and poverty alleviation programs for the poor.  Rodent also causes some dangerous diseases which can affect human health badly.

Let’s have a look at some of the evidence,

‘Di lang leptospirosis! Rat damages Negos rice farms

Farmers in Negros Occidental lost some P8.4 million to rats that infested some 703 hectares of rice farms there from July to August, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist said.

Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino said crop damage was monitored in four barangays in San Enrique, 11 in Valladolid, and three in Bago City in southern Negros Occidental; and four barangays of Cadiz City in the north.

This affected 507 farmers with a combined rice field area of 703.66 hectares, the OPA said.

Bago City, considered the rice bowl of Negros Occidental, sustained the highest losses at P6.06 million, with 344 farmers and 467.24 hectares affected.

In Valladolid, 89 farmers with 113 hectares of rice farms sustained P1.6 million in losses while in San Enrique, 61 farmers with 112.45 hectares lost P473, 514.

Meanwhile, in Cadiz, 13 farmers with 10.97 hectares sustained P226, 830 in losses.

Oh rats! They’re eating away at our rice

KEPALA BATAS: Penang’s padi fields are facing a growing and gnawing rat menace that began after the disastrous flooding of the mainland last November.

The ricefield rat (Rattus argentiventer), which can produce five to 10 offspring each month, has been ravaging padi fields in Kepala Batas.

To date, these rats have decimated crops in nearly 29ha in Paya Keladi belonging to 50 farmers, said Integrated Agriculture Development Area (IADA) Penang director Mohd Nazri Abu Seman.

Traditional approaches to rodent population and damage management have relied on direct reduction of populations using fumigation, rodenticide baits, rodent traps which is of no use.

We need to comeup with the solution to increase agricultural need

We, at C Tech Corporation, manufacture a range of extremely low toxicity, extremely low hazard, and environment-friendly pest repellent products.

Our products are a blend of green chemistry and smart technology.

Our product Combirepel™ is an extremely low toxic, low hazard rodent aversive. This product acts through a series of highly developed intricate mechanism ensuring that rodents are kept away from the target application. Our eco-friendly products do not kill the target species but only repel them.

The product triggers a fear response in rodents thus protecting the application. It causes severe temporary distress to the mucous membrane of the rodents due to which the pest stays away from the application. The product triggers an unpleasant reaction in case if the pest tries to gnaw away the application. After encountering the above-mentioned emotions, the animal instinctively perceives it with something it should stay away from and stores this information for future reference. The fact that certain rodents are repelled is mimicked by other rodents as well. Thus, the other rodents too stay away from the applications. The unpleasant experience is imprinted within the animal’s memory and passed on to its progeny.

The products are available in the form of a solid masterbatch, liquid concentrate, lacquer, and wood polish additive.

Our  Combirepel™  masterbatch can be incorporated in the agricultural films, polymer mulches, greenhouse films, polymer sprinklers, irrigation pipes, plastic parts from pumps and tractors used in the fields.

The product available in liquid concentrate can be diluted in paints and can be applied to already installed cables and wires, fence and tree guards, the coating of walls and other entry points. The liquid concentrate is compatible with all kinds of paints and solvents.

The already installed cables, pipes, and other application can be coated with our lacquer to protect them from the pests gnawing on this application and thus preventing the damage. The lacquer is a transparent product and it does not wear off easily.

The wood polish additive can be blended with wood polish and applied on the wooden articles and furniture.

Our newly developed product is in the form of a spray which is easy to use the product. It can be sprayed on the infested area to repel the rodents and prevent them from entering.

By using our products, you can get an effective and long-lasting solution against rodent nuisance.

Rodents: The unwelcomed visitors in garden

Rodents are known as the scourge of many gardens. Mice, rats, and many other rodents not only cause damage from tunneling through the lawn and garden, but they can also eventually enter your home after colonizing the garden.

Rodents are the unwelcome visitors in the garden. Like any other living creature, rodents are in search of food, water and shelter, garden simply appears to be the best place for rodents to multiply and thrive.

Do Rodents eat plants?

Yes, rodents eat garden plants and they are especially fond of seeds, therefore a newly planted garden seeds are a favorite target for them.

Rodents not only destroy the hard work by eating the plant in the garden but they can also infect the garden with many serious diseases and pathogens. Disease like the salmonellosis can be spread by rat’s droppings including Leptospirosis disease. Once the garden is infected by the rat’s droppings, watering the plant can spread the bacteria from the ground and can further spread onto leaves and fruit

The specific areas of the garden to check for rodent infestations are:

  • Sheds: Rats and gophers tunnel under sheds and set up home for them.
  • Garbage bins: Garbage bins are the most attractive place for the rodents as it provides them waste food.
  •  Wood Piles: Wood piles are the most attractive places for rodents to build their nests.
  • Bird feeders: Birds drop seeds in the garden, which can attract the rodents. The seeds which are stored can be attractive to many rodents.

Let us have a look at some of the evidence for rodent’s nuisance in garden,

Hundreds of rats swarm Cork woman’s garden leaving her family in fear

Amanda Feeney from Killala Gardens in Knocknaheeny, Cork, said that she can’t even hang her laundry out as the rodents have taken over.

The mum of three children under eight, claims that illegal dumping in the area is causing the problem with cars pulling up and chucking black bags full of rubbish into the estate.

The problem is so bad that she had to get rid of her two dogs as the rats would fight to get their food and frighten them off.

They have eaten through her wheelie bin, her garden shed, climbed her back wall and roam freely around her front and back gardens, leaving her terrified.

Rat problem forces community garden in Harlem to be shut down

HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) —

Too many rats have forced community leaders to shut down a garden in Harlem.

People in the neighborhood say it all started when a building was being torn down, and that sent the rats over.

The rats are bold and unafraid because they definitely outnumber the farmers. The rats came over when an old abandoned church was demolished across the street.

“And at some point they start crossing the street and jumping into the garden,” said neighbor Alejandro Ibanez. “And I could see them digging and trying to find their way in.”

The rats have taken up residence and so the rare green space where children played, neighbors met and families barbecued, is closed.

Traditional approaches to rodent population and damage management have relied on direct reduction of populations using rodenticide baits or rodent traps which is of no use.

Tarnished Plant bugs damaging strawberries

The strawberries are known as the queen of fruit in Asia. It is packed with Vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, manganese, potassium, antioxidants and is cholesterol free, they are low in calories.

Strawberries also contain significant amounts of phytonutrients and flavonoids which make them bright. They have been used in the medical context throughout history to help with the digestive system, whiten teeth and skin rashes or irritations.

There are different pests that infest and damage strawberry plants, out of which the tarnished plant bugs are the most attracted bugs  towards strawberries, they are also known as lygus bugs.

Strawberries continuously bloom and produce fruit during the entire season and require more attention. Some strawberry growers say that rather than farming, growing strawberries is more like gardening.

Tarnished plant bug infestation produces distorted or cat faced fruit, this damage is caused due to feeding by nymphs as fruit develop. Nymphs puncture individual seeds and inject a growing strawberry seed with a toxin since at the point of injection the strawberry will stop developing as this will result in deformed strawberries.

Deformed strawberries don’t resemble like a normal strawberry they look different and they are also known as button or nubbins berries. Unlike the normal one, the deformed strawberries can contain scars, broken skin, while some are with mold or decay or those that are either undeveloped or too ripe. The damaged seeds are brown on the outer side and hollow on the inside.

Let us have a look at evidence,

Vacuuming up one tough bug

Different crops can be attacked by different pests, but the quarter-inch-long critter known as the lygus bug has a broad appetite. More than 200 plants may be hosts for lygus, causing damage to many California crops.

Lygus bugs, also known as western tarnish bugs, damage strawberry fruit by puncturing individual seeds; in turn, this stops development of the berry in the area surrounding the feeding site. The result is an irregularly shaped berry, also known as “cat-faced,” for the resulting damage can look like a feline face.

Pesticides have detrimental effects on human health; with young children among the particularly vulnerable, low levels of pesticide exposure can affect young children’s neurological and behavioral development. Pesticides can cause deadly diseases like asthma, autism and learning disabilities, birth defects and reproductive dysfunction, diabetes, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, and several types of cancer. Get rid of them naturally without using pesticides by using our safe methods.

C Tech Corporation can offer a solution to overcome this problem. Our product Combirepel™ is an extremely low toxicity and extremely low hazard and eco-friendly.

Combirepel™  is available in the form of the masterbatch, which can be incorporated with the polymeric applications like tree guards, pipes, agricultural films, wires, and cables, etc. to keep pests at bay.

The product available in the form of liquid concentrate can be mixed in paints in a predetermined ratio and can be applied topically on the applications.

The product available in the form of lacquer can be used as a topical application and can be applied to keep the pest at a distance from the plants.

The product is compliant with RoHS, RoHS2, and REACH and is FIFRA exempted. This product acts through a series of highly developed intricate mechanism ensuring that pests are kept away from the target application.

The product is also effective against other pests thus protecting the plants from other pest attacks.

Combirepel™ is thermally stable and does not degrade on exposure to heat and sunlight. It does not kill or harm the insect but repels them. It does not volatilize and does not degrade the soil. It is RoHS, RoHS2, ISO, REACH, APVMA, NEA, EU BPR compliant and FIFRA exempted.

Bedbugs making their way into a movie theater

Have you ever been to a scary movie in a theater? Well in a theater there is something scarier than what is on the screen. Yes, we are talking about the scary bedbugs. With soft cushy seats and a large number of human hosts, the theater is the real estate of bedbugs. Bedbugs are the small parasitic insect that always feeds on human blood, as they are just like an apple seed which have a similar reddish-brown colour. The tiny bedbugs which are also known as baby bedbugs are colorless which is even more difficult to spot; they are the hearty suckers and can live up to 1 year without any meal.

Bedbugs find thousands of hiding places inside movie theaters; they reside in the cracks and crevices of the seats. The human body gives out carbon dioxide as well as heat; the bedbugs get attracted and feed upon an unsuspecting host. The bedbugs lay hundreds of eggs where they hide as a result of which their population keeps on growing. The bedbugs thrive in the theater to receive a good supply of blood meals every day.

Let us have a look at some of the evidence,

Tiny bugs crawl all over carpet at Ontario AMC Theatres

By Rob McMillan

ONTARIO, Calif. (KABC) —

Disturbing cellphone video shows tiny bugs crawling all over the carpet at the AMC Theatres at the Ontario Mills Mall.

Corey Virgilio recorded the disgusting footage while he was at auditorium 16 to watch the film, “Bohemian Rhapsody” around 7 p.m. Sunday.

“We’re sitting in the movie theater. I dropped my keys on the floor. I didn’t want to ruin the movie for anybody, so I said, you know what, I’ll just get it after the movie,” Virgilio said.

He said he pulled out his cellphone and got down on his hands and knees to look for his keys beneath the seats.

“As I look with my cellphone light to try to find my keys, I zoom in and I see something moving,” Virgilio said. “As I zoom in closer and closer, I find easily seen with my eye, at least 15, 20 bugs.”

Virgilio said he immediately notified the movie theater manager and then posted footage of the bugs on Facebook.

He said something needs to be done about these kinds of filthy conditions.

Woman claims bed bugs bit her at Independence Movie Theater

By: Sean Hirshberg

INDEPENDENCE, Mo.  A movie theater that has a history of bed bug complaints now has another one.

Shannon Cunningham told 41 Action News Monday that she believes bed bugs bit her at the AMC Theater in Independence.

“We were there for about 10 minutes of the previews and the next thing I know, we’re sitting there in the dark and I start getting ate up,” Cunningham said. “It felt like crawling, like something was moving on your ankle, like going across your leg.”

The Buckner, Missouri woman said she later found two red marks she believed were bites. She said those marks later swelled up.

Cunningham said she took her complaint to a manager, who told her they’ve had several complaints.

“He stated that they are trying to do something about it and how there’s been bug companies out constantly,” she said. “But he says it’s been a problem for quite some time.”

Pink Bollworm – Major pest of the cotton crop in India

Cotton plays an important role in the Indian economy as it is one of the principal crops of India as the country’s textile industry is predominantly cotton based. India is known as one of the largest producers and exporters of cotton yarn. By the year 2021, the textile industry is expected to reach USD 223 billion.

Cotton which is the commercial crop and the backbone of the textile industry as the major use of the cotton is in the textile industry since the fibers of the cotton plant are harvested and woven into the fabric for production. We can use cotton seeds to extract oil for use in the cooking oil and for manufacturing soaps etc.

Cotton pests are currently the main subject of research. The major cotton pests are the pink bollworm which is widely distributed serious pest. The Pink bollworm chews through the cotton lint to feed on seeds as cotton is used for seed oil and fiber so the damage is double and huge. The larvae feed on the seeds and destroy the fibers of cotton thus reducing its quality. Over 50% of the cotton crops have now lost to the bollworm since its discovery has caused millions of dollars of cotton damage each year.

Let us have a look at some of the evidence,

Output dips in Telangana on pink bollworm attacks

With farmers completing the third round of picking in several parts of Telangana, total output is pegged at 50 lakh quintals as against the targeted 3.5 crore quintals.

Unfavourable weather conditions and pink bollworm attacks resulted in extensive crop damage in the State. Dry spells in the initial stages of the kharif season, too, led to stunted growth of bolls.

About 20 lakh farmers grew cotton on about 44-45 lakh acres this kharif as against the normal area of 41 lakh acres. In a normal season, farmers get an average yield of 8-10 quintals an acre.

This time, however, yields halved due to the pink bollworm menace, which set in early in the season in some areas.

Pink bollworm again attacks cotton crop in Maharashtra

The pink bollworm has again attacked cotton plants in Maharashtra this year, causing concern among farmers and the State government.

The pest had caused large-scale damage to the cotton crop last year in central and eastern Maharashtra, the State’s main regions producing the commodity.

The pink bollworm attack on cotton has been reported this year from Akola and Washim districts in Vidarbha and Nanded and Parbhani in Marathawada, a senior official in the agriculture department said. “The pest has again shown its presence. It has attacked plants in their early stages of growth. If the pest is not controlled in time, the plants will die and there will be no yield,” he said.

Pink bollworm is an insect which chews through the cotton lint to feed on the seeds.

A farmer from Nanded district said there was no assurance from the State government on controlling the pink bollworm attack or any communication about advanced methods to check its spread. “Therefore, many farmers decided to change the crop as they had lost the cotton yield last year. The financial aid, as announced by the government for the damage to crops, was also not properly disbursed,” he claimed.

Bedbugs in hotels

Is it possible to tell that the bed on which u sleep is infested with bed bugs? The real truth is, it can be difficult to spot beg bugs especially during the day as they are nocturnal and their nests which are very tiny will be hidden within the dark crevices under the bed. Since bedbugs got their name for a reason as they tend to live around bed or mattress.

People believe that only the unhygienic and the dirty hotels get bedbugs but the truth is that all hotels get bedbugs. Whether it would be the cheapest hotel or the five star one, all hotels get bed bugs from time to time. Therefore any hotel in the world can be infested with bed bugs.

These little bedbugs have nothing to do with the hygiene they can simply enter by someone’s luggage and can make their home in the beds enjoying a meal that is feeding on our blood while we are sleeping.

Let’s have a look at some of the evidence,

Disneyland Hotel guest ‘absolutely butchered’ by bedbugs

Ivy Eldridge, who visited the park with her family in April 2018, is claiming she suffered both physical and emotional damage after waking up at Anaheim’s Disneyland Hotel covered in bedbug bites, according to a lawsuit filed earlier last week, The Los Angeles Times and Fox News report.

Ms Eldridge also claims she required medical treatment following the incident.

Ms Eldridge’s lawyer Brian Virag, of legal firm My Bed Bug Lawyer, Inc, filed the lawsuit on her behalf, and named Walt Disney Co. and Disney Parks and Resorts as defendants in addition to Disneyland Hotel.

“People put trust in the Disney name and pay top dollar to stay at Disneyland Hotel. In this case, Ms Eldridge’s trust was betrayed,” Mr Virag said in an article posted to the My Bed Bug Lawyer website.

“This was not a situation where a person sustained one or two bites. Ms Eldridge was bitten throughout her body, including, but not limited to her face, ears, neck, arms, and back.

“She was absolutely butchered.”

The lawsuit further claims that Disneyland was aware of the bedbug infestation, but did not take the appropriate steps to rectify it.

A spokesperson for Disneyland did not comment on the lawsuit but told Fox News the resort took “extensive preventive measures” to keep guests safe.

Holidaymakers attacked by BEDBUGS left ‘mentally scarred’ after infestation at four-star hotel ruins £2,000 trip

A British couple say they were left traumatised after they were bitten by bedbugs during their Spanish getaway.

Sue and John Berry claim to have suffered dozens of bites all over their bodies at a four-star hotel just three days into their two-week, £2,000 holiday.

The retirees are now so fearful of the parasitic insects that they haven’t been on holiday since then.

And they claim that they have been “passed from pillar to post“after complaining to the tour operator who sold them the trip.

Sue told the Liverpool Echo that she and her husband were left “mentally scarred” and embarrassed as strangers stared at their bites.

The couple, from Melling, Merseyside, went on the trip to Levante Park Hotel in Cala Bona, Majorca, in August last year after booking with Tui Gold (formerly Thomson Gold).

They said the company hasn’t responded to their latest correspondence.

Sue, 63, said: “It was my husband’s first holiday away in ten years and within a couple of days it was ruined. I had bites all over my body and he had them on his legs.

“They were on my neck and chest. We looked like we had a disease. I was really embarrassed and it felt like everyone was looking at us.”

Sue said that she was told by a maid that the bites were the work of bedbugs that had infested the room.

At one stage the “infestation” got so bad Sue said they woke up in the middle of the night and could feel the bugs crawling on them.

She added: “We asked to move rooms and they said the hotel was full and it wasn’t possible.

“I was so exhausted and started to cry with frustration as we were covered in bites and it was so sore and uncomfortable.

“That night we sprayed the bed with something the maid had given us but woke up and could see the bugs crawling over us and the bed.“

Since returning home Sue said she and her 67-year-old husband are yet to go on another holiday for fear of wasting their money and being affected again.

Pesticides have detrimental effects on human health and cause harmful diseases so instead of using outdated control measures we can make use of our product, our product Combirepel™ manufactured by C Tech Corporation is an anti-insect aversive which repels insects.

Combirepel™  works on the mechanism of repellency. It temporarily inhibits the mating cycle of the insects. The product impairs the ability of the insects to reproduce, that is the insects will not lay eggs or the laid eggs will be infertile. The product causes feeding disruption in an insect by triggering an unpleasant reaction within the insect which might try to feed on the application.

The product temporarily blocks the reproduction system of the insects by hindering the release of the vital hormones for growth.

Combirepel™ is an extremely low concern, low toxic, low hazard, non-carcinogenic and non-mutagenic insect aversive. It does not kill or cause harm to insects as well as to the environment which indirectly helps to maintain the ecological balance.

Hostel susceptible to pests.

When it comes to a hostel we all know that by the very nature of its existence a hostel is a place where people come from various regions and backgrounds travel with different kinds of transport that are infested with pests, through sewage lines, gardens, grounds, kitchen area, canteen area. The most common pests found in hostels are rats, squirrel, bedbugs, cockroaches etc. Hostels are the excellent breeding place for the pest as it provides them shelter and safety.

Hostels have a huge area it becomes easy for the pest to enter and thrive. Once the pest enters the area they create a great mess. Pests are not the only nuisance but can cause property damage and transmit harmful diseases. They can cause nuisance in hostels by destroying books, clothes, or any equipment and material. Thus the overall result of pest infestation is investing thousands of dollars to fix or to repair it.

Let’s have a look at some of evidence for pest infestation,

Health officials visit Tumakuru hostel, encounter rats and roaches

The small kitchen on the premises of Vidya Varidhi International School in Chikkanayakanahalli, Tumakuru, is a poorly maintained and unhygienic area where food for 29 hostel students is prepared. Health Department officials found this out the unpleasant way as they arrived on a visit on Friday, only to be greeted by rats and cockroaches.

The visit came a day after three boys in the hostel died in a suspected case of food poisoning. “The kitchen was not clean at all. There were a lot of rats,” one of the officials said, adding that the floors had clearly not been cleaned in a long time and the walls not painted at all. “The cereals, rice and vegetables were kept open on the floor. When we went there, rats were feasting on them. The lighting was also poor.”

Sleepless nights for JNU students as bed bugs invade hostels

NEW DELHI: Many inmates of hostels in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) are spending the night on the floor or sleeping on their beds without the mattress, waiting for the day to break. These students have neither been punished, nor are they sleepless in love. Blame it on bed bugs. The rooms of nearly all the boys’ hostels on the campus have been infested with these blood-sucking bugs or khatmal.

Even as the university authorities are busy devising the ‘right strategy’ to launch a counter-attack on the bugs, the students have armed themselves with pesticide sprays. “I bought five bottles of a khatmal spray last week from a store on the campus. We have been told in the hostel that it’s a university-level problem and should be dealt with accordingly,” said MPhil student Vipin Krishna, who stays in Periyar Hostel.

The hostel residents are busy and they hardly have time to pay attention to such matters but the effect of pest infestation is more danger.

The conventional control measures used are rat baits, fumigation, glue boards, etc. which are more harmful to humans then that to the pest. Instead of using an outdated control measures which is of no use we can make use of our products.

We, at C Tech Corporation, have thought about this problem in detail and have come up with a viable solution. The solution is named Combirepel™. We are the sole manufacturers of the product Combirepel™.

Combirepel™ works on the mechanism of repellency.

Combirepel™ is an extremely low concern, low in toxicity, low hazard, non-carcinogenic and non-mutagenic insect aversive. It does not kill or cause harm to insects as well as to the environment which indirectly helps to maintain the ecological balance.

Combirepel™is available in the form of the liquid concentrate can be mixed in paints in a predetermined ratio and be applied on the material which has to be protected from pests.

Combirepel™in the lacquer form can be applied topically to the applications. The lacquer is compatible with most of the surfaces like wood, concrete, metal, polymer, ceramic, cables, wires etc.

Combirepel™in the form of the masterbatch, which can be incorporated into the polymeric applications like polymeric tree guards, pipes, wires, cables, polymeric material, instruments and equipment.

Combirepel™ in the form of a spray can be sprayed to already installed wires and cables and any surface or material infested with pests.

Combirepel™ is thermally stable and does not degrade on exposure to heat and sunlight. It does not kill or harm the insect but repels them. It does not volatilize and does not degrade the soil. It is RoHS, RoHS2, ISO, REACH, APVMA, NEA compliant and FIFRA exempted.

Flying Squirrel – A great nuisance

Flying squirrel is the type of rodent which can be more appropriately called as gliding squirrels, although their name is flying squirrel in real they don’t fly but glide. They glide using a thin skin between their front leg and back leg that allows them to glide through the air from one tree to another tree. In a single glide, a flying squirrel can cover more than 150 feet. They have originated around 19 to 20 million years ago. The life expectancy of the flying squirrel is about 6 years.

Flying squirrels are nocturnal and are known to make huge noise especially during the night between the sunsets and have a high sense of smell. They can enter the attics through small cracks and crevices by chewing up the area for wide and large entry point as they are smaller than the gray squirrel. The typical habitat of the flying squirrel is inside hardwoods.

Let’s have look at some of the evidence,

Students report flying squirrel infestation in Terraces

The Office of Facilities is working to address student reports that flying squirrels have been scurrying around in the Terraces Residence Halls at Ithaca College.

The reports of flying squirrels were in Terraces 6 and 9. Facilities addressed the problem by sealing off where the squirrels had entered, said Ernie McClatchie, executive director in the Department of Facilities, Grounds and Transportation. Facilities first received reports of flying squirrels in Terrace 9 in mid-November and from Terrace 6 in early December. McClatchie said this is the first time he is aware that squirrels have accessed the dorms and were reported to Facilities.

One of the students who filed a report to Facilities, sophomore Zachary Ashcraft, said the issue first arose Nov. 26 when he heard a rustling noise coming from under his bed. Two weeks later, he heard the same sound again, and Ashcraft and a friend used a granola bar to lure out and catch a glimpse of what he thought was a mouse.

Ashcraft’s friend called the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, who told Ashcraft that there had been issues of flying squirrels in Terrace 6. Ashcraft was told by Public Safety to put in a work order with Facilities. Facilities put a trap in Ashcraft’s room three days later, and the trap failed to catch the squirrel, Ashcraft said. Facilities came back a day later to fill in the hole the squirrels were entering in from, and Ashcraft has not had issues with flying squirrels since.

Sophomore Julia Driscoll also said she experienced issues with flying squirrels; though, for her, the response from Facilities was not as fast. Driscoll said that the Sunday after Thanksgiving break, Nov.

Atkins’ roommate saw four squirrels in his room at one time Dec. 3, and Atkins said he was told by maintenance that the squirrels got in through the area surrounding the pipes in the walls. 25, she heard what sounded like a mouse, which was caught the day after. That same day, however, while she was at her desk, a flying squirrel jumped onto it and ran off.

Hungry flying squirrels strip, eat bark from pecan trees
Lenny Wells

Many growers have recently called about the bark being stripped from their trees. This normally occurs on smooth-barked limbs or central leaders 3 inches or less in diameter. The culprits here are flying squirrels.
When food sources become scarce, flying squirrels will strip the bark off smooth barked branches to feed on the tree’s cambium. If they completely girdle the limb or central leader at any point on the tree, the limb or leader will die from that point upward. If the damage does not completely girdle the limb or tree, the wound normally heals over with time. Flying squirrels are nocturnal. Their home range is usually no more than an acre so damage tends to be isolated to certain spots in the orchard.

We at C Tech Corporation make use of Mother Nature’s  gift of senses given to these pests.

RodrepelTM is the best solution to keep rodents away from human contact.

RodrepelTMis a low-toxic, and low hazard rodent aversive. This product works on the mechanism of repellence. It does not harm or kill the target species but generate fear or trigger temporary discomfort within the pests that keeps the pests away from the application.
The unpleasant experience with the product is imprinted within animal’s memory and passed on its progeny.

RodrepelTM is available in liquid concentrate which can be diluted in paints and can be applied on the surface. It is easy to apply and dries quickly and does not volatilize.

The product is available in lacquer form which is a direct application. The lacquer can be applied on the furniture and other wooden accessories. It can be applied on already installed wires and cables, polymeric utility pipes and equipment. The product is compatible with most of the surfaces like metal, wood, concrete, polymer; ceramic etc.

The product available in the form of masterbatch can be incorporated into the polymeric applications like wires and cables, pipes, equipment and accessories while they are manufactured.

Our newly developed product is in the form of a spray, RodrepelTM rodent repellent spray can be used by anyone and sprayed on the infected area. The product dries quickly and hence does not require much time to deliver the results.

The product is compliant with RoHS, RoHS2, EU-BPR, APVMA, REACH and is FIFRA exempted.
